My Pearl!

Hey girls!

So, big news!

WHY, you ask, did I feel the need to share the stories of Mike and Carol (brady bunch!) finding a pearl in their fried oysters?

BECAUSE I FOUND ONE TOO!

AHHH!

Here's the story! (Maybe FOX News will interview me too...bahaha a girl can dream!)

So, last night, a bunch of us went to The Oxford to have dinner!

Thats one of my favorite spots, and everytime I go I order fried oysters. Halfway through, I bit down, and I swear I thought I lost a tooth!
Of course, my immediate thought was...PEARL!

I was absolutely right!

It was a pearl!
Umm, so at first, nobody believed me...naturally they all thought it was anything from an onion to a peice of the shell...WRONG!

Im so excited! I really want to keep it, have it cleaned, and either make all of my friends eat oysters at every meal so I can make earrings, or simply make a ring!

In other news, tonight is my good friends 22nd birthday! We celebrated last night, but tonight we are going to Tobacco Road! I love that spot, we just started going a few weeks ago! Its a lot of fun!

Happy birthday Kim!

Have a great Thursday!

Make-A-Wish

Hey girls!

SO, its been such a long time since my last post! I am so sorry I am so spiratic lately! No worries though, I rarely pay attention in my 11 oclock class (world music, who cares) so I have lots of time to read many of your blogs, just NO time to post lately!

I have so much to catch you up on, and also a few things to vent about...read what you will!

I'll start with telling you about my new adventures with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Raleigh!

I have wanted to be a volunteer there for over 3 years, and finally got the time, as well as the contacts I needed, and set it up! Initially, I didnt take it seriously, but after reading "The Preppy Handbook", and seeing that volunteering is such a fun, essential part of life, I decided to apply to a few places.

I looked at organizations such as Planned Parenthood (The Preppy Handbook suggested that one), and also while in NYC this summer took a tour of the Ronald McDonald House. I absolutely loved it, so I contacted the Durham office. I prayed hard about it though, because I really had my heart set on Make-A-Wish. The next week I got a call from the coordinator, and to make a long story short, I had a 4 hour training session last night. I am the happiest girl right now, because i'm officially a "Wish Granter!"

I am truly excited to embark on this new adventure! Everyone at the training last night was just wonderful, and so much fun to work with! I always get so excited when I get the chance to do things like this! It makes me feel like I am living the life I am meant to live. I know most of the time I have too much on my plate, but I just LOVE non-profit stuff! In my opinion, theres nothing better!

I guess I take after my sweet mother! She always says that when all of her children are grown (which isnt too far away!) she would love to do long mission trips! She is such a wonderful, positive influence in my life, and has truly taught me so much about being a good person, and following my heart! I know in my heart that this new experience will hopefully allow me the opportunity to better the lives of the adorable children, as well as help me to grow as a person, and have fun. Based on the people I met last night, its going to be a lot of fun! I think its so incredible that wishes like this can be granted! Each one is like a mini miracle!

We watched a video, and y'all I just have to share the sweetest thing i've ever heard!

This little girl had a very rare form of cancer. She was just 9 years old. She could have wished for anything her heart desired, but made the most beautiful wish! She wished for her parents to go on a trip after she passed, so that they could grieve, but remember her, and try to move on at the same time. She, along with MAW planned the whole trip, and they went. That story is so moving to me!

Needless to say, I cant wait to start!

Truly, Make-A-Wish came at the perfect time for me because, lately my life hasnt been as easy as I am used to. A lot has been going on, and it seems the more that goes on, the more I create ways to avoid it. Well, last week, it finally caught up with me, and I just lost it for a few hours! After trying to think of ways to make things easier, and trying to be in control, I realized that all I needed to do was pray. I prayed hard, and finally felt a sense of peace come over me. At this point, as every other time I try to take control, I realized that I am not in control. Its all in Gods hands, and I just have to have faith. Everything works out, but I cant worry about things the way I tend to! It only makes things seem quite a bit worse. I know I rarely discuss personal matters in my life, so I do apoligize if that was TMI...just had to vent!

ALSO!!

Today, I am meeting with the head of the Theatre department at school. She recommended that I minor in Theatre (she has an agent too, and is the sweetest lady!)

I need about 15 extra hours not including required courses, anyway, so why not! GOODBYE INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS THAT I WOULD NEVER USE!! Hello theatre!

I am extatic!

Also, tonight is $5 martini night at one of my favorite spots, The Oxford, so a few of my girlfriends and I are going to get drinks! I am excited! School has been keeping everyone so busy lately!

I hope y'all are doing well!

Will post more a bit later!

Until then, have a great Tuesday!!
