I am dying to go to this event. My birthday is May 8th! Has anyone else heard about it, going?

That Time of Year!

Hey girls!

So, yes, long time and no postings!

I have been insanely busy, as I am sure you all have lately!

School is finally coming to an end!! Although, I am so over classes, it is very bittersweet! I will miss all of my friends this upcoming summer, but I am so ready to be in NEW YORK CITY!!

The best news I have had all week is that I finally booked my plane ticket yesterday, and I am leaving on May 29th from Charlotte! I am really happy this has all worked out!

Originally, my sweet mother was going to fly up to the city with me and help me get acquainted with work, living, ect but after a lot of prayer and thinking, we recently made a decision that I would make the trip alone and stay with my roommate and her mother before we move in.
At first, I was so torn up thinking that I really needed my mother there with me, but then I realized that it is my brothers senior year of HS, and he was so sweet when we missed his sermon on Youth Sunday to go to New York and book a place for me to live. She did that with me, and she has made sure that everything, all of the arrangements, and such are already taken care of. That is above and beyond what most parents would do, so I realized that making this trip alone would not only be more logical, but also give me the chance to grow up some more and become more independent.
I came to realize that Sam, and Sarah need her more, and I was fortunate to have her when I was their age for everything they should have the same privilege. I forget sometimes that she is just one person because she does so much for the 3 of us!
The plan is that she is going to go with me to the airport and we will say our goodbyes. Truthfully, this is a much better way for me to say goodbye rather then her be in New York because I am horrible with goodbyes, and so I am glad I will have the plane ride to cry it out if it comes down to it haha!

I have always been the "homebody" out of my family. I absolutely hate saying goodbye, and I used to swear that I would never leave my hometown. I remember being 10 and my parents deciding to send me to "science camp" (they didn't yet realize that school, especially science was not my calling!) I remember I was incredibly homesick before we even left, and by day 3 they both came and picked me up from camp. I remember the counselor tried to get me and a few other homesick girls to take these "homesick pills"...

now y'all I may have been 10 and no Bill Nye, but I wasn't stupid...homesick pills, please!
They had to have been placebos!

Anyways, the next day, my parents came 5 hours to get me and when they did, they asked me why I had been so adamant on coming home, I said "the bathrooms were nasty, I couldn't live like that!" Needless to say, they didn't buy that, and that was my first and last year of science camp!

Over the years I have gotten much better about being on my own, but not that much better with goodbyes.
I remember my Grandmother always told me that the best thing you can do when you get upset is just let it out, and have a good cry then you feel better. That is why I thank the Lord that I have an hour plane ride, now hopefully I will have a fun plane partner and we will just talk the whole time like Ken and I did...that would be ideal!
Despite the goodbyes, I am so ready to make this trip and see what all it has to offer, and what all lies in store for me. I cannot wait to meet all of the new people I know I am gonna encounter, as well as the other interns and colleagues that I will be working with! I am so so so excited about that! Also, luckily so many people have already given me contacts of who they know in the city, and that is just a blessing! I feel great about knowing that if I ever needed anything, I have people to call. The best part is that I turn 21 on May 8th, so some of the people I am living with and I have already made dinner/ BAR HOPPING plans for my birthday!! YAY!

Look at this link to see the place we are going first!
Rooftop Garden

Also, my crazy Aunt (who used to live and work in NYC) is trying desperately to hook me up with her co-workers son. He just graduated from Wake Forest and is living in New York with his friends this summer. I don't hate it...hahaha!

I have already packed all of my clothes, and matched suits and dresses for work to go ahead and be organized! I think that is my favorite part of the job is that I will get to dress in a suit every day! I LOVE pencil skirts and pretty jackets, so that will be just perfect!

Apparently, all of the college students living at the New Yorker will be having a 3 day orientation to know each other!! YAY! I am so excited about that!
We will be going to a few Broadway plays, having dinners, and whatever else is on the itinerary!

In other news, I went to the beach this past weekend with the girls, and GOOD LORD did I get sunburned!
I have never in my life!
Sometimes I just cannot believe the stupid things I do! I look like a lobster if I stay out in the sun for more than an hour, but I just couldn't help it! It was so pretty! I just had to spend time on the beach!
We spent one day at Wrightsville, and then another day on Masonboro Island! Both were beautiful, and full of people!
I ended up seeing some of my friends from back home that go to UNCW on the beach! How random! I was lookin a little pasty that first day, because the spray tan just couldnt make it through the week, so when I heard someone yell "KATIE!" I thought...oh Lord, who the hell am I gonna see?!
When we got back to school on Sunday, I realized that I got very bad sun poisioning on my lips and it looks like I got freaking collogen injections!
I dont hate it, no lip plumper needed this week!
Fortunatly, I found these pills in my medicine drawer for fever blisters and I have been attempting to swallow them (they look like horse pills!) for a few days to get these babies to go away!
It actually all turned out to be such a blessing though, because I have been trying to get into UNC Dermatology for a while because, well, I really am just not a fan of my dermatoligist, so yes anyways...yesterday I called them and they got me in this Friday! What perfect timing!
The only problem is, I wasnt aware at that point that I was going to have blisters the size of Texas all over my lips and unfortunatly, I have a spot on my lip that i'm dying to have removed because it hurts from when it was removed before. I havent quite figured out how that's gonna happen yet, but I know theres a way!
Oh gosh, and I went to "Last Day of Classes" in Chapel Thrill this past Monday night! Did anyone go? It was so much fun! I went with my roommate and met a bunch of her friends, which is always fun! Also, I saw tons of my friends...because practically everyone I know from home went to UNC. The band was really good too, they were an 80's/Beach Music cover band (perfect!) and you can't beat that!

The weekend before last, I went to a Fraternity Formal down in Myrtle Beach! My friend asked me to go with him, and I never pass up a social function so of course...I said YES!
It was really fun I had to go get a new dress, and normally I just wear black to everything, but I saw this lime green dress, and fell absolutely in love with it!
The Friday we got there, my date passed out in the car on the way to the hotel...classy! Hes the President and was suppossed to check everyone in...luckily he got it together by the time we got there! There were 5 people in our car, and 50 people at the formal. I was the only Meredith girl there, everyone else was from State. My date and I spent most of our time with 3 other couples doing stuff around Myrtle Beach! I got to know so many new people, we both had the BEST time!
Friday was crazy, just with checking in and getting settled and all! I felt so nasty from the car ride! It was a good 3 and 1/2 hour trip but we played Beach Music the whole way and it was fun! Later after I had gotten ready, we waited for our roommates, who I absolutely LOVE, to get there Friday night and then we all went to dinner at Greg Norman's Grille in Barefoot Landing! It was so good! We went to dinner around 10:30 and stayed until 1! When we got back, we were going to go on the beach with everyone, but like 30 of us ended up in one room, and that was perfect for me because I got to meet everyone!
Saturday was when it got really fun! At dinner, the boys had discussed this suprse they planned for us, and we were DYING to know what it was. First, they took us to lunch at Margaritaville, and we ended up all getting free shot glasses...so cute! After lunch, they kept trying to mess us up so we wouldnt guess the "suprise!" They gave us clues, but we couldnt figure it out! The girls and I kept walking into shops asking the workers if they knew anywhere with all of the clues...they didnt! Our suprise ended up being the Ripleys Aquarium! It was so random, but so adorable that they all got together and planned that!
It was actually a lot of fun! We did this one exhibition where you stand on a walkway and it moves all around the aquarium, well as we did this I kept seeing these bright red buttons...I wanted to push one so bad but I didnt have to because my friend Curtis went right up to one as we were about to end the tour and pushed it thinking it "lit up the aquarium" as he put it! HAHA!
It ended up stopping the ride, and all of the sudden this BIG black man looks at Curtis and he goes "Boy what the hell you do!?"
We took off running, thats what we did!
Oh, but he followed us, and that was the end of our day at the aquarium! It was too funny! Poor Curtis!

After the Aquarium, we went back to the hotel to get ready, and I just had to room hop because all of these people I said I would get ready with were in different suites. My date left to drink with his friends early, and I got ready quite quickly. I ended up making a gin and tonic by 4, and was room hopping by 5. We all took the best pictures, which I will post!
Formal was great too! My friend Brooks and I won the rap dance off...proudest moment of my life! Also, the girls and I won another dance off...I really dont dance, but that night I was on fire! It was hilarious!

After the formal, (which I will never forget as long as I live...apparently I ended up giving shag lessons, learning the Cupid Shuffle, and rapping to lil Wayne all night long (and it wasn't karaoke)), we went back up to our room...and 30 people followed us! We ended up ordering pizza, and talking until like 3 am! Rediculous! The funniest part was this little freshman pledge came in like right before 3 and was so excited...he kept saying this was the best night of his life he was so excited to be with everyone, and then my roommate was like "everyone get out, im going to bed" poor little guy was crushed! It was too funny!

That was hands down, one of the best weekends of my life! It didnt end there, craziness for my birthday starts soon, and I think me and one of the brothers are having a party at their house! I cant wait for that!

Here are some of the pictures!

Have a great Wednesday!
